Derek Wakefield grew up in a town just outside Boston, receiving his bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Interviewing with Quantum was the first time he had stepped foot in Arizona; he moved here in summer of 2021 with his girlfriend whose firm transferred her here so she could join him.

Derek brings great experience to Quantum—he has spent his entire career in the insurance industry, starting with an internship during his senior year of college with Northwestern Mutual. He spent three and a half years at John Hancock, being promoted to internal wholesaler, then joined a broker general agent in New England as a case design specialist where he spent another three years before joining us. “I pride myself on relationship-building and connecting on a personal level while providing insurance strategies. I enjoy working with a variety of advisors to find life insurance solutions for their clients,” Derek says.

In his spare time, Derek likes being outdoors and hiking in the desert terrain; “The heat doesn’t bother me until it reaches over 100 degrees.” As foodies, he and his girlfriend are enjoying all the new restaurants to try in the Phoenix area. Derek is an amateur hockey player who’s played the sport most of his life; he enjoys it so much that he even moved all his equipment here hoping to find an ice rink and team. But the biggest thing you need to know about Derek is this: he is a diehard Boston sports fan. Go Patriots, Celtics, Bruins and Red Sox!
